This is one of the recent games in the Spinomenal slot collection, devoted to the Day of the Dead. It features a 5×4 field with 20 fixed lines (expectedly, the bet range is $0.2 to $200). The video slot seems to have a low to medium volatility, judged by my 200 spins. Its key feature is free spins with a rare bonus variation that Spinomenal named ‘Re-Spin Expanding Wilds.’

The video slot is not published on Spinomenal’s official website yet, so I lack information about its RTP variations (I’m going to check back spinomenal.com regularly for updates). My test spins were relatively successful, regardless of the resulting $3 loss. Free spins were triggered twice, with the first session (at 3m 38s) ending with a x16.5 profit and the second (at 7m 52s) bringing me x26.5.

I had many small wins (up to x3) during normal, non-bonus rounds. Stacked wilds were also helpful in creating combinations. You can also choose to buy 10, 25 or 50 free spins by clicking ‘Buy’ at its usual place, near the ‘Spin’ button. The cost of one spin is x4.

I used to say it earlier, and say it again, that a 5×4 video slot, like Spin of the Dead, should have more paylines or be based on a no-payline approach, e.g. 1024 ways to win. So, from this standpoint, I’m a bit disappointed with the gameplay.

Free spins with Re-Spin Expanding Wilds

I like that a player can win so many free spins! Hitting three, four or five of the above symbols, you will get 10, 25 or 50 FS. The bonus is boosted by a rare Expanding Wild Re-spins feature – watch my video starting from 7m 50s to see how it works.

When a wild symbol lands in any position, it expands up and down to cover the entire reel, you get a payout (if any), and one re-spin is awarded. So, you ultimately win not 10, 25 or 50 FS, but a bit more if wild symbols appear during free rounds.

Extra wilds in Spin of the Dead slot

While the reels are spinning during normal games, 3 to 6 wilds can appear in random positions, amplifying the winning chances. I do not remember landing the feature in my test spins.

The paytable (no low symbols J-A)

Spin of the Dead accepts $0.01 to $10 per line. Based on the partial paytable (low symbols are not shown), we can calculate the best three payouts: $10,000 (five Skulls), $6,000 (five Guitars) and $3,000 (four Skulls). Combos count in a classic way: from left to right.

Five wild symbols appearing on an active payline award x3,000 (up to $30,000).

My verdict

This is a plain-vanilla video slot from Spinomenal with bog-standard features, except for Respins with Expanding Wilds that are active during free spins. With its 20-cent minimum stake, it can be good for low rollers. I’ll keep waiting for its official publication, which will bring clarity to the RTP range.
